Hello!
I’m John. When I was a kid, I did not dream of being a wedding photographer. I wanted to be a rock star. That did not work out for me.
After losing my hair and coming to terms with reality, I discovered photography and I don’t know who I’d be without it.
I’d moved to Liverpool from Devon in 2010, but never truly saw the city and its inhabitants until I started photographing it.
Suddenly, each building told a story and fleeting gestures of strangers betrayed a web of interconnected lives.
Holding a camera in my hands makes me happy. It makes me notice the smallest of details in the world that I would otherwise miss, and lets me be truly present.
I spent over 2 years learning my craft on the street, building a body of Liverpool street photography that I’m very proud of.
Whilst I knew that could continue to hone and develop my street portfolio for years to come, I felt that there must be another way I could be making use of my new skills.
At that point my understanding of wedding photography was limited to memories of couples disappearing from the party for long stretches, unnatural poses, and forced smiles.
However, after seeing the work of Kevin Mullins, Chelsea Cannar, and Martin Ellard - I discovered the huge potential for creativity within wedding photography.
I then set my sights on building a body of wedding work that embraces everything I’ve grown to love about shooting candidly on the streets.
So that’s all I can offer you.
8-12 hours of my time on your wedding day (plus another day or so of editing!).
Seeking as many fleeting moments and chance encounters I can find.
Photographing every one of them in the only way that I know.
